Last month was my parents’ 50th Wedding Anniversary. To celebrate that special day, we took them to see the play “My Fair Lady” at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, IL. I had never been to that theater before, and I was really impressed. The place was really beautiful – a large theater and very ornate. The play was really great – a perfect gift for my parents. The actors were fantastic and so were their voices. My parents just loved the music and recognized some of their favorite songs like, “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face.”
After the play, we went out to dinner at a nearby Greek Restaurant. I had never been there before, but looked on-line for somewhere close to the theater. The name of the restaurant was Basils Greek Dining. They are located on the circle drive of the Fox Valley Mall, also in Aurora. We originally made our reservations for 4pm on a Sunday, but had to call from the theater to let them know that we miscalculated how long the play would be and that we would be there about 45 minutes late. They were very accommodating and said they would hold our table for us. That was the first thing I liked about this restaurant. The second thing I liked about it was the atmosphere. It was really beautiful and inviting from the outside, and had a nice romantic setting on the inside.
But, the thing I liked most about the restaurant was the food. It was so good. There were seven in our group, we each ordered something different, and it was all absolutely delicious. For appetizers we had Saganaki (flaming cheese – one of my personal favorites), Spanakopita (spinach cheese mixture in phyllo dough), and Calamari. All were delicious.
Some of us had salad and some had soup. My dad had the Lamb Meatball Soup (which they serve on Sundays) and he just loved it.
For dinner, we all had something different. We ordered Pastitsio (Greek Lasagne), lamb chops, rack of lamb, salmon, braised lamb over pasta, filet mignon, and shrimp baked in garlic. It was all awesome! Usually when you go out with a large group, there always seems to be one person who isn’t exactly thrilled with their meal. Not the case here – everyone loved their dinner.
Well, I just thought I would tell you about this in case you have an anniversary coming up and you need a recommendation for a nice night out. A play and dinner is a nice combination, and we recommend the Paramount Theatre and Basils Greek Dining. Oh, guess what Saturday is. Yes, that’s right, Sweetest Day. This is a nice combination for that night too!
