We just got back from a wonderful family vacation.  I kind of threw it together at the last minute since our original plans for a Northern Michigan vacation fell through.  Finding something last minute in the middle of August isn’t exactly the easiest task, especially when you are traveling with a pet.  But after countless hours of internet searches, I stumbled across a place called Lakeside Cabins Resort, located in Southwest Michigan.  On-line it looked really nice and they did have a cabin available for us and we could bring our dog.  So, I booked it.  What a blessing; our family had the best time there.

The location was great.  Very close to Lake Michigan Beaches and many of the small vacation spots along the shoreline (towns like New Buffalo, etc.)  But, it was tucked away in a very peaceful setting – lots of woods, beautiful trees, and small lakes.  Every cabin has a screened in porch which was absolutely wonderful.  Our family thought this place was great and plan to visit there again.

Lakeside Cabins Resort has cabins you can rent or own.  It has a gated entry and the grounds are very well kept.  They have 2 heated outdoor swimming pools with a bath house, a sandy swimming beach on Wilkinson Lake, kayaks, fishing, sports courts, and a game room.  They also have organized activities such as daily crafts, bingo, pizza night, pie eating contests, pancake breakfasts and other activities.  The layout and roads were also great for bike riding and riding your scooter.

Ours was a small cabin with one bedroom with a queen size bed and a loft with a twin and queen airbed.  We also had a small kitchen and living area with cable TV, a stereo and the ever important (at least for me) central air conditioning.  We also loved the screened in porch where we ate some of our meals and played our usual family games of Phase 10 and Sequence.

You do have to bring your own towels, linens, and necessities.  We also brought our own food (they have a full size refrigerator and freezer) to cook in meals and grill outdoors.  It was such a nice family place – a great, relaxing get-away.
